my cd (new) arrived without that "black protective slipcase with gold lettering"... I wonder if this anthology was available likewise without the slipcase... or not?

Like other reviewers say, this album is a bit difficult to label unless you heed to information technology, given the stoner/metallic/whatever style that this grouping has been attached to. I knew Earth thank you to that wonderful gig called "Primavera Order" in Barcelona, where they presented this anthology and its characteristics: ho-hum, slooow, slooooow jams of echoed guitars with westerner chords that made it a kind of heroine-influenced mail service-rock, with very subtle progression during the tracks, but post-stone after all. Even with its jazzy $.25.

After labeling it, this is a wonderful album besides, with its acme just in the centre: the riff of "Engine of Ruin" is addictive and describes the relaxed, just a bit doomed athmosphere of the whole disc. Very recommended, and run across them live if you can.

Earth is a ring that gets tagged with a lot of descriptions and genres that exercise non really utilize to its current sound. I am constantly reading their music being described every bit "stoner rock" or "doom metal", which exercise accurately describe the bands style from many years ago. In more recent times, the ring'due south sound has moved to a more than ambience, sometime west styling, which is the instance on the recent album, "The Bees Fabricated Honey in the Panthera leo'south Skull".

This anthology does not quite fall into whatever sort of truthful ambient territory, as there are very solid and noticeable musical progressions. This almost seems more like movie soundtrack work than true ambient or background music. The bulk of information technology is filled with actually dense and highly styled guitar washes that invoke a very serious "Wild Westward" atmosphere. I can't really compare it to Ennio Moriccone's western soundtracks as the music is very different. However, I call back "The Bees Made Honey..." could be substituted and used as a soundtrack to many of the great Leone westerns. Instead of lush orchestrations, you take nigh a stone sensibility that could exist coming from a lonely cowboy traveling alone in the desert. Although, this cowboy happens to exist carrying around some impressive guitar amps. The audio is not ballsy in scope, but rather more than introspective.

Personally, I wait forrad to taking a trip out west, and playing this while going through the desert. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the deficient few examples of "western ambient" like A Small, Skillful Affair or Steve Roach and Roger King's "Dust to Dust". It might also work for people who are actually into western movie soundtracks of whatsoever type, particularly the recent soundtrack piece of work by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis for movies like "The Proposition" or "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford".
